Opinion: Why AK was Survivor Australia’s best contestant this season

No one can match his level of game play.

Aaron “AK” Knight’s big power plays on Survivor Australia finally got the best of him when he was voted out last night at tribal council after a shock vote.

He went head-to-head with his rival Tara Pitt for the second time (he orchestrated her elimination a couple of weeks back), but unfortunately lost. He played a big game and was always 10 steps ahead, which made him Enemy Number One to basically everybody. He should have made it to the very end – and here’s why.

He pulled off the biggest blindside of the series

When he was part of the Samatau tribe, the 29-year-old went from being the lone wolf to the biggest threat. Aimee Stanton was tight with tribe leader Locky Gilbert, and therefore in AK’s eyes, she needed to be axed. Being on the bottom of the hierarchy, the South Australian wedding DJ made a bold move and convinced other contestants that her time was up. Meanwhile, Tara, Locky and Aimee herself, believed it would be an easy vote for AK to be ousted. No one can ever forget the look of shock on Aimee’s face when her name was first pulled out by host, Jonathan LaPaglia.

He never stopped fighting

Even when he was forced to tribe-swap with Asaga on Sunday night’s episode and knew that things weren’t looking for good for him (he was back with his rival, Tara), he didn’t give up. He could sense that Luke Toki was lying to him that Tara was on the chopping block, so AK was forced to put his fate in the hands of Odette Blacklock and Sarah Tilleke. Unfortunately, his reputation as a strategy mastermind got the better of him and he was booted.

He was entertaining as hell

Remember when Locky was frustrated that he couldn’t light the fire for two days? AK just sat back, without lifting a finger. Why did he do it? To hopefully push Locky to the breaking point where he lashes out at the other contestants, thereby making AK look like the nicer, more stable guy. Genius. Plus, there are also these sassy clapbacks:
