The 2017 Emmy Awards are almost upon us and Nicole Kidman, who has been nominated for Best Actress, can’t wait for the festivities to begin.
Nicole is also up against her Big Little Lies co-star Reese Witherspoon. In fact, the series is up for a whopping 16 nominations in total.
“It’s amazing. I was so excited that we all got nominated. It will be a big night for us no matter what happens,” Nicole told Foxtel Magazine.
She also confirmed that, while there’s no official word on a second season of Big Little Lies, talks are certainly underway.
“We’re looking at season two for Big Little Lies,” she said. “We don’t know if that’s going to come to fruition, but we are working hard on it and Liane [Moriaty, who wrote the novel] has been so helpful in saying that she’s willing to try to come up with some storylines for us.”
Previously, Nicole spoke to TV WEEK about how the TV series adaptation of Big Little Lies came about.
“It came about because we were frustrated that we weren’t being offered complex, interesting roles,” Nicole explains. “We found this book and went, ‘Let’s get this made.’ We created our own opportunities and then we gave our girlfriends roles.”
Nicole’s character Celeste had some harrowing scenes in the series and she was open about the impact those experiences stayed with her long after filming ended.
“Your brain tells you, ‘I am acting’ – but your body doesn’t know that,” Nicole says. “I think there’s a particular type of actor who goes to a certain place for a performance. That does penetrate and it has an effect. And then you have to rid yourself of it and purge it, or you learn from it. And Celeste [her character in Big Little Lies], it penetrated.”
