The eight-part drama series, which was filmed exclusively in Queensland, stars a roster of incredible Australian actors including Aaron Jakubenko, Peter O’Brien, Madeleine Madden, Caroline Brazier, Dalip Sondhi, leading lady Charlotte Best and, of course, honourary-Australian Elsa Pataky (who is married to Chris Hemsworth).

Elsa Pataky and Charlotte Best star in Tidelands.

Tidelands follows Cal McTeer (Charlotte Best), a young woman who returns home to the small fishing village of Orphelin Bay after spending ten years in juvenile detention, then jail.

When the body of a local fisherman washes ashore, the town’s relationship with drug smuggling is put on public display, and Cal must uncover the town’s well-hidden secrets.

Cal investigates a group of outcasts who live in a hidden pocket of the bay: a group of half-Siren, half-human “Tidelanders” led by the alluring Adrielle Cuthbert (Elsa Pataky).

Elsa stars as Adrielle, leader of the Tidelanders.

Tidelands is produced by Emmy and BAFTA award-winning Australian production company Hoodlum, and is written by creator Stephen M. Irwin (Secrets & Lies) and Leigh McGrath.

Executive Producer Tracey Robinson, who is behind Brisbane-based Hoodlum, is thrilled to be partnering with Netflix in order to bring this show to life.

“The primeval landscapes of Queensland are a perfect setting to tell the story of betrayal, small town secrets, ancient mythology and, when it comes to family, explore whether blood really is thicker than water,” Tracey says.
