Neighbours heartthrob Bruce Samazan is returning to Ramsay Street to reprise his role as beloved character, Mark Gottlieb. Known best for his desirable dimples and devilish good looks, Bruce’s comeback is part of the iconic soap’s 35th anniversary.
Playing out around March next year, the exact reason for Mark’s return to Erinsborough is still under wraps but, if his past storylines are anything to go by, it’s sure to be dramatic!
Bruce isn’t the only returning cast member for the anniversary, he’ll be working closely with Melissa Bell who plays Lucy Robinson.
While on the show between 1993 and 1995 Mark had a whirlwind romance with Annalise Hartman (Kimberley Davies) and dodged death three times: falling off a roof, almost stabbing himself in a cooking accident and being hit by a car.
We can’t wait to see what’s next!
In the meantime, Bruce dishes on what it’s been like returning to the set.
What are you most excited about returning to Ramsay Street?
The opportunity to re-join the cast for such an amazing milestone was a no brainer. While acting isn’t a part of my daily life now, it’s something I’ve always been passionate about, I just love it. Here I am, 25 years later back on Ramsay Street – who would have thought?!
Why did you decide to return?
Timing wise was perfect. Whereas in the past, when I’ve been invited back for these types of occasions, it just wasn’t possible so that worked in my favour and also, to be involved in the 35th Anniversary is such an honour. Also, the opportunity to work with the lovely Melissa Bell again, we have a long history together dating back to the E Street days, I couldn’t pass on that.

How has the show evolved and changed since you left?
Definitely technology. In my day, the cameras had cables were coming out all over the place, now it’s all wi-fi. The pace is still very fast but that was something I grew accustomed to when I was on the show so that isn’t so different, but it does make you realise how important it is to be prepared. And of course, the sets have changed but there is still a lovely familiarity.
What is next for you?
This has been a great experience which I’m incredibly appreciative for and if it opens up other opportunities to get back into acting again who knows but, I’m just very happy to be here for the 35th. I have a wonderful life outside of television with a beautiful family living in Noosa.
Neighbours airs weeknights, 6:30pm, on Network 10.
