Neighbours star Felix Mallard is the latest from the soap to land a big role in the US. The actor is set to star opposite New Girl actor Damon Wayans Jr in a so far untitled comedy pilot for American network CBS.
The show follows a 30-something couple who feel their life has become boring and want to reconnect with their youth.
Felix has been cast as Cooper, a cool up-and-coming young popstar, who turns the couple’s life upside-down when he moves into their suburban home.
The 19-year-old made his name in Australia as Ben Kirk, the son of Libby Kennedy (Kym Valentine) on Neighbours, playing the young character since 2014.
According to Digital Spy, Felix filmed his final episodes on the soap late last year and they predict we will bid a final farewell to Ben this March.
Since saying goodbye to Erinsborough, Felix has updated fans on his time in Los Angeles, sharing snaps with Travis Burns, who also departed the show recently and former Ramsay Street alum, Margot Robbie.
The move makes Felix the latest in a long line of actors who started their careers on Neighbours and have gone on to Hollywood success, including Margot who will soon find out if she has won an Oscar for her role in I, Tonya.
Margot played Donna on Neighbours from 2008 to 2011 and landed her big break in 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street. Her next cinema release is family film Peter Rabbit in which voices the titular character’s sister Flopsy rabbit.
Other actors who launched their careers on Neighbours include Guy Pearce, who recently starred in Aussie film Swinging Safari alongside Kylie Monogue who was also on the soap.
