With his megawatt smile, chiselled jawline and heart of pure gold, Cam Cranley ticks all the Bachie boxes.
And now, after months of fevered speculation the 2017 Bachelor Matty “J” Johnson has told Now To Love he’s certain Cam’s poised to take on the title of our 2018 Bachelor.
“I’m thinking surely by now they’ve got the person locked in. If I had to put money on someone it would be Cam Cranley from my season,” Matty J, who has just landed a guest role on The Living Room, says.
“He’s someone that’s kind and considerate and ready to fall in love but also, he’s a bit of a dream boat to look at as well. He’s a handsome young man,” the 30-year-old adds of his former Bachelorette season two co-star.
What’s Matty J’s advice to Cam Cranley?
After falling head over heels in love with jewellery designer Laura Bryne, Matty knows more than anyone what Cam has to do to find The One.
“You have to be really patient and you have to be yourself,” he advises Cam.
“Obviously at times, there is a serious risk of being hurt but you have to try and have fun and not dwell on the fact that there is a risk of getting your heart broken.”
Who does Matty J want to be our 2018 Bachelorette?
Following in the footsteps of the hilarious Sophie Monk is no mean feat.
And Matty thinks there’s only one person that could give Sophie a run for her money.
“Do you know who I would love to watch? Jennifer Lawrence! No pressure on Channel 10 but if you want to keep this viewer engaged, it’s going to have to be her,” he laughs.
“Sophie Monk’s really raised that bar, she’s really down to earth and funny. Obviously it’s a serious show about finding love and Sophie was able to pepper in a lot of humour and I think Jennifer Lawrence is the only person who comes close to [Sophie’s humour].”

Beating The Bachelor curse
Finding love on a reality show comes with its own unique set of challenges – just ask Sophie Monk and Stu Laundy.
But six months after picking Laura Byrne on The Bachelor and the couple couldn’t look more in love.
“It is really difficult after the finale, it is really stop-start. You finish filming and you have to wait for the finale to air to enjoy your relationship out in the open,” the Sydney local admits.
“For us, it was just a case of constant communication and not losing sight that it wouldn’t be long until we could enjoy our relationship together.”
Matty thinks one of the contributing factors to their success is the fact he and Laura pretty much live around the corner from each other.
“We are so close already in terms of geographical location, just 15 minutes down the road. I think it would have been so much more difficult if she had been interstate.”
Engagement speculation reached fever pitch after a recent holiday to South Africa but Matty says their next big step is moving in together.
“We haven’t even had a year anniversary, at the moment we’re not really feeling a huge amount of pressure but it’s nice that people are willing us to take that next step in the relationship,” he says of the constant wedding chatter.
“We are talking about moving in together, probably around mid-year around June.”
The couple are still tossing up where they’ll move but Matty has an inkling he might have to leave his Bondi pad and relocate to Laura’s place in Rushcutters Bay in Sydney’s east.
“The thing is, for [Laura’s dog] Buster he has a bit of weight behind him in this argument. Being in Rushcutters, the closest beach for him is Rose Bay dog beach, so I think Buster is going to get Laura’s opinion across the line.”
Counting down to Bachelor in Paradise
Another thing he and Laura are looking forward to is watching their mates (and some of MJ’s ex-girlfriends) on Bachelor in Paradise.
“One hundred per cent we’ll be watching. Both Laura and I cannot wait for that show to start,” he says.
“I was at Laura’s house on the weekend and the new promo came out, which was like the extended version. And we were like, “What, there’s a proposal?” So we’ve been racking our brains trying to think who pops the question on the show.
“I think if anyone’s going to drop the knee, my money is on Jarrod Woodgate. He’s at a point in his life where he is really ready to settle down.”
Moving in similar circles as some of the BIP cast, Matty reveals his Bachelorette co-star Jake Ellis is “very happy” after meeting someone on the new series.
Bachelor-turned-travel-presenter
With his Bachelor days well and truly behind him, the former marketing exec has his sights set on a career in television.
And Matty has already landed a dream job, filling in for Dr. Chris Brown on The Living Room while he works in South Africa for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Starting this Friday, February 23rd Matty will be presenting a travel special on New Zealand showing all the best the country has to offer.
Matty’s hoping his time on The Living Room will lead to a full-time gig with the network.
“Hopefully when the stories have been aired, Channel 10 see them, they like them and they ask me to come back and do some more!”
“There’s a few shows on Channel 10 which I really like, whether it be The Project, Studio 10 or The Living Room. I’d love to spread myself across those programs.”
Channel 10, we hope you’re listening!
