When he’s not pushing himself to his limits in the kitchen, MasterChef Australia contestant Arum Nixon likes to push his body to the limits.
In his spare time, Arum has competed in endurance events around the world, including marathons in London, New York and Paris.
But it was an exhausting 243km multisport race across New Zealand that included 70 kilometres of white-water kayaking in icy cold rivers that took a fierce toll on the 34-year-old.
“It took a lot of concentrating and focusing, so I was completely drained,” the advertising strategist recalls.
“After 15 hours of exercise, my body was pretty broken. It was the toughest day of my life mentally and physically.”
Despite the hardship, Arum is proud to have completed the course that involved cycling, a trail run and kayaking.
“Crossing the finish line was an amazing experience,” he says.
Arum’s confidence has grown throughout the competition, after he secured the very last apron available in the Top 24.
After losing the first two team challenges, the Englishman found his stride in Sweet Week.
It was his first pressure test, completing Deniz Karaca’s challenging Passion for Caramel Tart, which made him realise just how much he wants to win this competition.
After surviving Paul Carmichael’s bajan fish fry elimination challenge, he believes he can now win any challenge to get there.
