It wouldn’t be the TV WEEK Logie Awards without taking a moment to honour the late television icons who shaped Australia’s entertainment industry of today.
At the 2022 TV WEEK Logie Awards tonight, Tim Minchin, accompanied by an orchestra, played piano and sung a powerful ballad dedicated to our passed television icons.
Among the tributes honoured were TV legend Bert Newton, who tragically died in October 2021, aged 83 as well as Brian Henderson, Australia’s longest serving news presenter who was best known best for hosting Channel Nine’s Sydney weeknight news from 1957 until 2002.
An inductee of the TV WEEK Logies Hall of Fame and a Member of the Order of Australia for his contributions to TV news, entertainment and journalism, Brian died aged 89 in August 2021.
The TV WEEK Logie Awards also paid tribute to First Nations performer and artist David Gulpilil Ridjimiraril Dalaithngu for his contribution to Australian cinema. He passed away from lung cancer in November 2021, aged 68.
The proud Yolŋu actor starred in films like Crocodile Dundee, Storm Boy, and Rabbit-Proof Fence.
Shane Warne, who was known for his sport commentating as well as cricket achievements, was also celebrated in the tribute.
