To this day, Kath & Kim remains one of the most-loved comedy series to have been on Australian television.
Fans have been calling for its return ever since it departed our screens back in 2007.
The recent release of the iconic series on Netflix has seen demand for a reboot reach fever pitch.
So, have the cast ruled out the possibility of a return?
“Never say never,” Magda Szubanski, 57, who played Sharon, tells TV WEEK. “I’m getting a lot of reaction on Twitter from people who are catching it on Netflix.”
Series co-creator Jane Turner, who played Kath alongside Gina Riley as Kim, is like-minded, calling Kath & Kim “a great experience”. But she believes the cult show would need to be updated and modernised for it to rival the success of the original.
“It would be very different now,” Jane, 57, explains. “There are always funny new trends and things Kath and Kim could put their spin on, which would be fun to do.”
While we keep our fingers crossed for this highly-anticipated reboot, TV WEEK looks back at some of our favourite moments from Kath & Kim over the years.
‘LOOK AT MOI’
We can’t help but kick things off with this iconic one-liner, which ended up becoming one of the most-quoted phrases in Australian households throughout the early 2000s.
‘FOR $500,WHO IS THE PRIME MINISTER OF AUSTRALIA?’
This moment became more relevant than ever recently, after the Liberal leadership spill consumed Australians. Luckily we had our gals Kath and Kim to get us through the all-too-familiar situation of a new Prime Minister.
THE STATUE OF BABY CHEESES
Who could forget that time Kim built a tower of ‘little baby cheeses’ when Kath requested a statue of ‘ the little baby Jesus’? Classic mix up, you guys!
KIM SHOPPING FOR A NEW WARDROBE
Kim’s continuous efforts to style herself like celebrities Jessica Simpson and Kate Moss fell flat, with Kath insisting she was “more like Homer Simpson!”.
WHEN KIM HAD A STICKY DATE
Food dates over real dates, need we say anymore? We can totally relate Kim on this one!
