It’s the episode every This Is Us fan has been waiting for (or maybe dreading) – the ep where much-loved father Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) tragically died.

“It’s just an absolute soul-crushing event,” Milo warned Entertainment Weekly about the penultimate episode. “Once you figure out the moment where it’s going to happen, you may get some hope — and then it’s all going to go away.”

“I think the best thing I can say – or the worst thing I can say – is: It’s going to be f—ing painful.”

The episode aired yesterday in the US and will be making its way to Aussie screens this year (season two will air on Channel Ten on February 14), so if you don’t want to know just yet how Jack meets his demise, stop reading right now.

Those of you keeping up with the show in US time will know that it had something to do with a faulty Crock-Pot which was gifted to the Pearsons by a neighbour. That seemingly innocent household appliance started a raging fire that ripped through the house, and Jack, being his regular Super Dad, went into the burning building to save his family, their pet pooch and some important possessions.

Jack made it out of there covered in soot and seemingly unscathed but we knew the heartbreak would be coming thick and fast.

An EMT sent Jack to the hospital as he’d inhaled a lot of smoke and everything seemed fine. Jack was joking around and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) began making hotel arrangements for the family. Everything turned south after that.

As a result of his smoke inhalation, Jack went into cardiac arrest and tragically died, crushing our hearts forever. The doctor had to break the news to Rebecca and she instantly went into denial.

After rushing over to his bed and seeing his lifeless body, Rebecca then had to tell her three kids the tragic truth.

Excuse us while we all sob uncontrollably.

This Is Us season 2 returns to Channel Ten on February 14.
