‘The Crown’ season two will soon hit our television screens, and it looks like it’ll be even more scandalous than the first.
While the hit show’s first season showed Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) as a young woman in her twenties, balancing the public and political demands of her new royal role while dealing with upheaval in her personal life, the forthcoming second season will present the monarch in her thirties as she struggles to cope with scandal after scandal… after scandal.
“One more scandal, one more national embarrassment, and it would all be over,” the monarch warns in the clip.
The story is expected to pick up in 1957 and finish about 1964.
As previously rumoured, Prince Philip’s (Matt Smith) storyline is going to get a lot juicier this time around — think infidelity and a continued inferiority complex.
“You married a wild spirit,” an unnamed character tells the monarch of her husband in the clip. “Trying to tame them is no use.”
Of course, creator Peter Morgan hinted that Prince Philip would be at the centre of the action throughout season two.
“I find him extraordinarily interesting—his childhood, again, you couldn’t make it up. The soul of season two is about his complexity,” he said at the Royal Television Society’s event The Crown: Deconstructing the Coronation in March.
But Philip isn’t the only person the Queen has to worry about…
Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby), now moved on from her ill-fated romance with Peter Townsend, has yet to grow out of her rebellious phase. This time around she’s causing waves with her eventual husband, photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones (played by Downton Abbey‘s Matthew Goode).
We’ll see the royal ride a motorcycle — the horror! — and pose for a rather revealing photoshoot.
“I know who I am—a woman for the modern age—free to live, to love, and free to break away,” she declares in the trailer.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth has to deal with a world on the brink of revolution and the changing perception around the notion of royalty.
“To do nothing is often the best course of action—but history was not made by those who did nothing,” she says in the teaser.
The second season will be available to stream on Netflix beginning on December 8.
