Like Friends or Gilmore Girls, 2000’s series How I Met Your Mother quickly became one of those iconic shows with a cult following.
The series, which ran from 2005 to 2014, instantly won over fans everywhere for its hilarious and outrageous look at navigating life in your 20s while telling the long-winded, yet, epic love story of Ted and his wife.
So, when the news first broke that the show was getting a sequel, we were more than ready to celebrate harder than a New Year’s Eve at Ted and Barney’s fake bar, Puzzles.
The long-awaited spin off, How I Met Your Father, made its grand debut with an initial 10 episode run for its first season last year.
AND, they cast beloved 00’s actress and Younger star, Hilary Duff. as the lead.
Set in the near future, Hilary plays Sophie, the modern day equivalent of Ted, who tells the story of how she met her son’s father back in 2021.
“How I Met Your Mother is a crown jewel in the 20th library and its fans have clamored for more ever since our final broadcast seven years ago,” 20th Television president Karey Burke said in a statement.
“Our genius producers Isaac and Elizabeth who are — wait for it — legendary within our halls, have created a spectacular new take which both honors the original and is entirely their own.”
How I met Your Father was created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, with the OG creators of How I Met Your Mother, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas executive producing alongside them.
This wasn’t the first attempt at a spin off for the beloved series.
Back in 2014, as soon as HIMYM ended, talks naturally began about developing a sequel.
In fact, How I Met Your Dad starring Greta Gerwig had a pilot episode created and pitched to CBS, however it never went ahead.
