It took Ted Mosby nine seasons to explain to his son and daughter how he met their mother and as it turns out, perhaps his story isn’t over.
The Sun has reported that Chairman of 20th Century Fox, Dana Walden has high hopes that the series could make a comeback.
“I hope we will have an opportunity to revisit these characters and tell these stories if [the creators and stars] have the desire to do it,” she said at a conference on Monday.
“It’s a beloved show that still continues to be popular all over the world,” she added.
The popular sitcom starring Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Josh Radnor, Alyson Hannigan and Jason Segal ran from 2005 to 2014.
Logistically, a How I Met Your Mother reunion may be difficult to pull off with many of the cast having moved on to new projects.
Josh Radnor, who played Ted, is about to star in the upcoming TV series Rise. Neil Patrick Harris is busy playing Count Olaf in the Netflix Original production of A Series Of Unfortunate Events.
Jason Segal has recently starred in the British-American romantic science fiction film The Discovery, while Cobie Smulders has a lead role in the Netflix Original comedy Friends From College.
There were also talks of a potential spin-off of the show titles How I Met Your Father. This was to be written by This Is Us executive producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, but as they have now been promoted to showrunners, the project may have been put on hold.
Perhaps this is a sign that a How I Met Your Mother revival isn’t meant to be? Or perhaps it’s just not the right time. We’ll keep you posted if this project gets off the ground.
