We can’t forget Australia’s favourite couple Scott and Charlene who captured the hearts of the nation all the way back in 1986.

From longtime lovebirds Susan and Karl to young couples like Ringo and Donna who were ripped apart too soon – take a trip down memory lane as we reflect on some of our favourite romances from Neighbours.

Scroll down to see who made our list.

Scott & Charlene:

Lovebirds Scott Robinson (Jason Donovan) and Charlene Mitchell (Kylie Minogue) first met in 1986 when Scott mistook Charlene for an intruder at Madge Ramsay’s (Anne Charleston) house. It turned out that Charlene was actually Madge’s daughter who she hadn’t seen for a number of years. The pair eventually fell in love, despite the opposition of their two families – the Ramsay’s and the Robinson’s.

The couple tied the knot in 1987 and thirty years later, their wedding is still THE most popular TV wedding ever. The episode even made Angry Anderson’s song ‘Suddenly’ a smash hit, thanks to the 20 million people who watched it in the UK alone! As for Scott and Charlene, they stayed together but ended up leaving Ramsay Street and made Brisbane their home.

Kate & Mark:

The beginning of Kate (Ashleigh Brewer) and Mark’s (Scott McGregor) relationship was a rocky one as Kate’s ex-boyfriend Declan (James Sorensen) tried to make trouble for the couple. From issues with Declan to trouble with the law, Kate and Mark didn’t have the chance to go the distance as Mark was admitted to Witness Protection in 2011.

It seemed that Kate and Mark might finally have the opportunity to try again when Mark returned from Witness Protection in 2013. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be as Kate was shot moments after accepting Mark’s proposal of marriage. She collapsed in his arms and passed away not long after, with all of her fellow neighbours around her.

Susan & Karl: Arguably one of the most iconic couples on TV, childhood sweethearts Susan (Jackie Woodburne) and Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher) have been married since 1978 but they have had their fair share of ups and downs. Karl has cheated on Susan twice – once with Sarah Beaumont (Nicola Charles) and the other with Izzy Hoyland (Natalie Bassingthwaighte).

Despite their many breakups, the couple always find their way back to each other. They have survived infidelities, an MS diagnosis and many other bumps in the road. Susan and Karl are still together to this very day. We hope this never changes!

Donna & Ringo:

Young lovers Donna Freedman (Margot Robbie) and Ringo Brown (Sam Clark) had an unconventional meeting when they met at a kissing booth! Not long after their relationship began, but they also had plenty of issues. This included a love triangle with Zeke (Matthew Werkmeister) and a fling between Donna and Andrew Robinson (Jordan Smith).

The couple eventually reunited and Ringo proposed to Donna, which she immediately accepted. Their wedding took place during the 6000th episode of Neighbours in 2010 and at the time, producers hoped the wedding could match the magic of Scott and Charlene’s. But the fairytale romance wasn’t meant to be and only a month after the nuptials, Ringo was knocked down by Steph (Carla Bonner) on her motorbike and he died not long after.

Dee and Toadie:

Ramsay Street favourite Toadie (Ryan Moloney) first met Dee (Madeleine West) in 2000 when she moved in with him and his other roommates. Dee actually dated their other roommate Joel, (played by Daniel MacPherson) but it didn’t work out between the pair. Eventually Dee and Toadie got together and became engaged a short time later.

In 2003, Dee and Toadie tied the knot in a lovely ceremony surrounded by their family and friends. Directly following their wedding, Toadie and Dee were involved in an accident. In truly tragic circumstances, Toadie drove their car off a cliff, directly into the ocean. Toadie managed to make it out alive but Dee’s body was never found. A Dee lookalike returned to Ramsay Street earlier this year and caused havoc for Toadie, but it turned out to be a fake called Andrea Somers!

Drew & Libby:

Young couple Drew Kirk (Dan Paris) and Libby Kennedy (Kym Valentine) grew close when Drew asked Libby to pretend to be his girlfriend for the night when his ex-girlfriend Shelley came to visit with her fiance Ray. Drew fell deeply in love with Libby at this point but Libby was in love with Mike (Andrew Blackman), so Drew tried to move on. After what seemed like an eternity, the pair finally got together and Libby agreed to marry Drew. They were married in a Scottish themed ceremony.

After their wedding, the couple were overjoyed to discover that Libby was pregnant as they previously thought she wouldn’t be able to have kids due to an earlier accident. Libby gave birth to a baby boy called Ben and things seemed to be on track for the married couple. Unfortunately the family of three were robbed of time when Drew unexpectedly passed away after being thrown from a horse while visiting his family in the country.

Declan & Bridget:

The romance between Declan Napier (James Sorensen) and Bridget Parker (Eloise Mignon) was a slow burning one and it took the teens a long time to even have their first kiss. But after they did, things certainly sped up! Following their first kiss, Bridget soon found out that she was pregnant with Declan’s baby. Declan proposed to Bridget soon after and the couple had a country wedding.

The couple welcomed a baby girl called India not long after they tied the knot. Whilst it took them a little while to adjust to their new lifestyle, things seemed to be going well for the teens. But Bridget was torn away from them when she suffered a life threatening blood clot. Following her death, Declan was forced to raise India as a single parent.

Harold & Madge:

One of the original couples on Neighbours, Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) and Madge Ramsay (Anne Charleston) were originally childhood sweethearts who lost contact over the years. But Madge’s daughter Charlene (Kylie Minogue) brought them back together when she invited Harold to Ramsay Street. The couple reunited quickly and Madge immediately accepted his marriage proposal a short time later.

Despite some time spent apart, in which Harold went missing and Madge became briefly engaged to Lou Carpenter (Tom Oliver), the couple made their way back to each other and renewed their wedding vows. Madge’s life was cut short when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given six months to live. But, her life ended much earlier when she developed septicemia after cutting her finger. Soon after she passed away in Harold’s arms.
