Fans have been eagerly awaiting a release date announcement for Channel Seven’s upcoming Olivia Newton-John biopic, Olivia Newton-John: Hopelessly Devoted To You.
Thankfully, the miniseries’ leading lady Delta Goodrem has finally confirmed the premiere date with her followers in an excited Instagram post.
“WE HAVE A DATE,” Delta wrote on the social media platform, revealing the show will hit our screens on Sunday 13th of May at 8:30pm.
The singer and actress shared the captivating new teaser trailer with her fans, which reveals the scope of Olivia’s life that is being tackled in the series.
From her iconic role as Sandy in Grease, to her infamous fluorescent style in the 80s, to her complicated relationship with her partner Patrick McDermott, the new biopic promises to deliver the unexpected truth behind the headlines.
Delta says filming the show has been “one of the highlights of my life”.
“Olivia influenced my earliest years as an evolving artist and became the backbone of influence to living my life and heart as a proud Australian artist,” the 33-year-old actress says. “I aspired to have her grace, humility and talent from the time I started singing.
“She is an icon. I am deeply humbled to play my idol and friend,” says Delta.
Olivia herself says she was initially “horrified” by the project, revealing: “I realised it was going to happen whether I wanted it to or not.”
“I love Delta. I think she’s a really good actress and a great singer so that made it okay, because we’re friends”, she tells Australian Women’s Weekly. “In the beginning she called me and asked, ‘Shall I do it or not?’ First I said, ‘I’m not sure,’ and then I said, ‘Oh you do it’.”
“I haven’t read it and I don’t know how accurate it is because it’s a movie and people weren’t there at every moment of my life but the money will go to the hospital [the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre in Melbourne] so some good has come of it.”
Despite her hesitations, Olivia chose to work with Delta to record music for the series’ soundtrack.
