The pressure is certainly on for 33-year-old leading lady Delta Goodrem, who retraces the footsteps of one of Australia’s most beloved stars from her early upbringing to how she found fame.

In October last year, Delta released the first image of her portrayal as Olivia’s character Sandy in Grease – and the resemblance is uncanny!

While not much info has been announced about when we can expect the Channel Seven two-part miniseries, we do know that hunky Danny (originally played by John Travolta) will be played by Deep Water star George Xanthis. You can also keep an eye out for Todd Lasance (Home And Away) and Robyn Malcolm (Upper Middle Bogan).

Here are four big moments from Olivia Newton-John’s life that we can’t wait to see on the small screen.

“I Honestly Love You”

The singer sang from the heart in “I Honestly Love You”

Released in 1974, the single “I Honestly Love You” signalled the start of Olivia’s phenomenal rise to fame. The Aussie singer won two Grammy Awards for the song, which was co-written by Peter Allen. It also helped establish her as a major international artist.

There’s no denying Olivia truly arrived when she starred alongside John Travolta in the 1978 flick Grease. The movie was a break-out success, topping the box office that year. While there are so many memorable scenes, we can’t wait to see the final scene where Delta (as Olivia as Sandy) transforms from prim and proper to leather and latex. “Tell me about it, stud!”

Xanadu Skating Scene

Skating up a storm in Xanadu

Olivia’s career went from strength to strength, and in 1980 she notched up another win with the musical fantasy film Xanadu. The movie flopped with the critics, but is fondly remembered for its generous use of rollerskates. We’re looking forward to seeing Delta go to… “a place where nobody dared to go”.

“Let’s Get Physical”

This video clip was iconic.

One of the most enduring visuals of Olivia’s career remains the sexually charged video clip for her hit 1981 song “Physical”. The video, which featured the blonde bombshell dancing with attractive muscular men, was considered controversial at the time. It also included lots of fluoro, lots of flesh and lots of leg warmers.

It will be interesting to see if the miniseries can recreate the magic of ONJ. But if anyone can, it’s Delta!
