The highly anticipated reboot, from the producers of Riverdale, couldn’t be further from the 90’s hit sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Fans likely won’t be able to expect the same humour as the original series, with Mad Men‘s Kiernan Shipka starring as the mysterious witch Sabrina in this new dark coming of age story.

Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka stars as Sabrina.

The trailer features what we could only describe as the nightmare of all birthdays.

Sabrina and a group of other shadowy folk gather around her birthday cake for Sabrina to blow out her candles, which is interjected by a number of hazy and ominous clips.

In the last few seconds of the preview, Salem the cat makes a quick appearance. Given what we’ve seen so far, we’re not sure he’s going to be the same lovable feline we’ve come to love and know.

Netflix also released a new poster this week which gives us equally eerie vibes about what’s to come.

Melissa Joan Hart who played Sabrina in the original series, told Bloody Disgusting that she hadn’t been approached by the producers and wouldn’t be making any appearances on the show.

Although fans might have been disappointed, Melissa herself didn’t seem to mind.

“I have no feelings about it [the show] really” she said.

“I’m glad they’re not just duplicating it”.

We can however look forward to the appearances of former Disney star Ross Lynch as Harvey Kinkle and Lucy Davis and Miranda Otto as Aunt Hilda and Zelda.

The series is set to stream on Netflix on October 26th, just in time for Halloween.

Not sure about you, but we’ll be making sure not to watch this spine-chilling series alone!
