You might not be able to believe it, but 2020 is coming to an end in the next few months – and we don’t know about you, but we have high hopes for 2021.
Yep, this year has given us a few, er, curveballs, so you can bet the months of January to December 2021 are promising a shiny new beginning – and that includes on our television screens.
Channel Nine is certainly proving the feat – the network recently announced its 2021 lineup at the virtual upfronts, and let us tell you, what’s coming to Nine, 9Gem, 9Life, 9Go! and catch-up service 9Now is going to make for some peak content.

Reality TV
Unsurprisingly, Married at First Sight will return, this time with a brand new expert, Alessandra Rampolla, who replaces Dr Trisha Stratford.
The new expert is a certified clinical sexologist with over 20 years’ experience, according to Nine.
“One of my strongest core beliefs is that sexual expression and compatibility are vital in building, nourishing and maintaining healthy romantic relationships, and it is my pleasure to help guide our participants in balancing this important factor in their brave quest for love,” she said in a statement.
The Block also makes a comeback for 2021, with its 16th season set to breathe new life into five Melbourne homes.
Popular reality show Love Island will also return for 2021, though COVID-19 international border closures mean the set might be a little closer to home than it’s usual Fijian location.
Yep, the show will be filmed on Australia’s beautiful Gold Coast!
Another iconic show returning to our screens? Beauty and the Geek – hosted by the ever-brilliant Sophie Monk. We have one thing to say to this – Bring. It. On.
The oh-so-wholesome Lego Masters is also set to return, with comedic host Hamish Blake at the helm once again.
And finally, after a six year hiatus, Celebrity Apprentice Australia will return to our screens – and our leading CEO? British billionaire and business magnate, Lord Alan Sugar.
The first three celebs to hit him with their best shot will be Biggest Loser star, Michelle Bridges, one half of Nova FM’s Fitzy & Wippa radio show host Michael “Wippa” Wipfli and Olympic gymnast Olivia Vivian.
Drama
If you’re after a good old dose of drama in 2021, Nine is set to provide the goods.
Popular show Doctor Doctor will return, alongside new midwife drama Amazing Grace.
The series is set to encapsulate life’s most surprising and precious moments (read: babies being born, Call the Midwife styles), with a drool-worthy cast including Kate Jenkinson (known for her roles on Wentworth and Offspring), Sigrid Thornton (Seachange, Wentworth), Catherine Van Davies (Hungry Ghosts, The Letdown), Alexandra Jensen (Frayed, My Life is Murder) and Kat Hoyos (Here Come the Habibs!).
Real life
Look sharp Selling Sunset lovers – Beach House Escape is set to bring a good dose of realty in 2021, with the show’s premise featuring people who aim to realise their lifelong dream of escaping the city.
Set in an idyllic seaside town where an old home right on the beachfront is ready for a complete makeover, the show’s cast will attempt to turn it into Australia’s best beach house.
Celebrity IOU will also bring some feel good vibes to our screens, with the show centring on A-listers transforming the homes of people who’ve played a pivotal role in their lives.
According to Nine’s statement, the show will be a “touching reminder that home truly is where the heart is, and no matter how successful you might be in life, you should never forget where you come from.”
