We’ve had behind the scenes snaps and now we have confirmation that four cast members from the first season will return along with two new regulars.

Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz and Shailene Woodley were all previously announced to be returning and will now be joined by Kathryn Newton (Abigail Carlson – Madeline’s troublesome daughter), Robin Weigert (Dr. Amanda Reisman – Celeste’s therapist), Merrin Dungey (Detective Adrienne Quinlan) and Sarah Sokolovic (Tori Bachman – wife of theatre director and Madeline’s lover, Joseph).

The biggest hint we’re taking from this news revolves around the return of Merrin as Det. Adrienne Quinlan. She was last seen interrogating parents over Perry’s death and we can only guess she’s not buying the story the ladies tried to sell her in season one.

New additions to the cast include Crystal Fox as Bonnie’s mother, Elizabeth Howard and Mo McRae as school teacher, Michael Perkins.

Meryl Streep was also previously confirmed to be joining the BLL cast as Perry Wright’s (Alexander Skarsgård) mother.

According to HBO season two will be an “[exploration of] the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting.

“Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode… the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”

Reese who is an executive producer on the series spoke about developing the second season.

“It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them.”
