Earning a spot in the MasterChef Australia kitchen was a dream come true for Benjamin Bullock.
But tonight, the 27-year-old was sent packing after failing to impress the judges during a cook off against fellow contestants Ray and Tamara.
TV WEEK caught up with the handsome Lawyer following his elimination to find out all about his time on the hit show.
How did you find the MasterChef experience?
Life changing. Made some friends for life and enjoyed every moment. Simply, I was honoured just to be a part of it.
Do you have a best moment from the show?
Making Yiayia’s katoumadi was quite a touching moment. She would have been so proud had she been alive. She taught me my love for food.
What about an embarrassing moment?
There was this one time I cried on national TV…
What dish are you most proud of?
Definitely the katoumadi. Although it looked atrocious, I was very proud to escape elimination on such a personally important dish.
What is your relationship like with the other contestants?
I made a couple of really good mates. I shared a room with Trent, Ray, Lee and Ben and we’ll remain mates for life.
Who was your biggest competition?
It sounds cliché, however the only true answer anyone could give is “yourself”. I cooked a couple of things that I would never even plate up at home, let alone the biggest amateur cooking competition in the world. The MasterChef kitchen does crazy things to you and the person that controls themselves best will win this comp.
Did you have a favourite judge?
No, they are all great.
We promise not to tell…
Matt Preston might have the edge – he is so damn dapper, both on screen and off!
Who do you want to win and why?
I think Arum Nixon. He is a very smart guy, fast learner and works hard. He would be the most deserving.
What did you miss most while in the competition?
The family puppy dog – Nelson!
What’s next for you?
I have a very exciting project planned in support of Beyond Blue. I will be riding my Hunter Motorcycle half way around the world, from Perth, WA, to Perth Scotland, exploring the different cuisines and creating cooking videos of the regional dishes that we come across. It is a 30,000km ride through almost 30 countries over 6 months. It is called “From Perth to Perth”.
If you had your time again, what would you differently?
My cooking has come in leaps and bounds, however if I had my time again I would do it all differently. I would cook the food that I like to eat at home.
