The judges for the Channel Seven reboot of Australian Idol have been revealed and they’re all Australian icons.
After returning as a guest judge in 2023, the original host, Marcia Hines will return as a judge in 2024 Australian Idol.
“I really loved doing it all the years that I was doing it for seven years in the beginning, and I feel really privileged that they have asked me to come back.” she shared.
Australia’s own pop sensation Amy Shark and radio host Kyle Sandilands will be returning as judges.
The new season is set to premiere on Monday, January 29, 2024, The reboot aired last year 2023, a good 20 years after its first season hit TV screens back in 2003.
Current stars such as Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Matt Corby, Anthony Callea and Casey Donovan can all trace their careers back to the reality show which was cancelled in 2010.
Back then the show aired on Channel 10 and featured Ian ‘Dicko” Dickson, Mark Holden and Marcia Hines as judges, though none have returned for the reboot.
Amy Shark later revealed that she’s interested in seeing how contestants evolve as they progress in the competition.
“It’s going to be pretty special to find that diamond in the rough and then see how they progress through the show,” she said.
“Idol has changed the lives of so many artists in the past, so I’m excited to be part of that.”
Unfortunately, original hosts Osher Günsberg (who went by Andrew G back then) and James Mathison did not return for the reboot, but never fear because Seven has chosen adequate replacements.
Ricki-Lee Coulter, a former Australian Idol contestant herself, will be returning with Scott Tweedie as the 2024 hosts after hosting in 2023.
You may even remember Scott from his stint hosting Prank Patrol on ABC back in the early 2010s.

Originally, Channel Seven announced it would be rebooting the show in 2020 but COVID-19 forced the production to halt until recently, with auditions for the show conducted throughout July and August.
