After 17 years on Home and Away, Ada Nicodemou is no stranger to the TV WEEK Logie Awards. In fact, it’s an event that the three-time Gold Logie nominee looks forward to every year – particularly when it comes to walking the red carpet.

“I love getting dressed up, I’m such a girl!” she says. “I get to wear beautiful designer gowns.”

While the 39-year-old says she’s been “incredibly lucky” to wear dresses she’d only ever dreamed of, one particular frock will forever remain a highlight. Perhaps because it was worn on the night she was nominated for a Gold Logie.

“The second time I was nominated for gold, I was wearing this gorgeous beige, skin-coloured dress with a sweetheart neckline and a black bow. I loved that!” she tells TV WEEK.

However, Ada admits that beauty comes at a price.

“The dresses aren’t always comfortable!” she laughs. “I always wear dresses with trains, and I don’t know why I do it because every year it’s such a hassle. People step on it, or it gets stuck around my legs. I often have to get help in the bathroom to do it back up again [laughs]! But I just love a gown.”

Having attended the event for many years, Ada knows how to get the party going – even before the ceremony starts!

“My makeup artist, manager and I usually buy a bottle of French champagne and have a long lunch,” she says of her pre-Logies preparation. “It’s very girly in my room – we have a lot of laughs!”

With 45 Logie wins under their belt to date, Home and Away is often assumed to win each year. But, it’s not always the case. Ada reveals that her fondest Logies memory came about unexpectedly.

“We had quite a long period of time where we were nominated but couldn’t get the win for Best Drama Program,” she says. “Then in 2014, we won. We didn’t expect it at all. We were on such a high for the whole night. It was lovely to share that with everyone.”

Home and Away then went on to win Best Drama Program at the next two ceremonies. With the series nominated once again this year, Ada is hoping the winning streak continues.

“We’re all so proud of the show and the product we make,” she says. “It would be great to win.”
