Luckily for you dear reader, we’ve compiled all the latest news in one place to keep you up to speed with everything ACOTAR!

Scroll on for everything you need to know about the upcoming television adaption of A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J.Maas.

What is A Court of Thorns and Roses about?

ACOTAR is a fantasy romance series that follows 19 year old mortal Feyre Archeron who is taken into the mystical faerie lands of Prythian after she accidentally kills a faerie.

Whilst her faerie captor Tamlin initially seems like a beast, Feyre is forced to question everything she has ever known about her treacherous new home and it’s magical inhabitants, as she battles her growing feelings for him, and faces off against a darkness that has set out to destroy Prythian forever.

The first book in the series (ACOTAR) was released to critical acclaim in 2015. Its sequel A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOMAF) was published a year later, with a final follow up book completing the trilogy in 2017 – A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOWAR).

Then, in 2018, Sarah released a novella titled A Court of Frost and Starlight (ACOFAS) which presumably ended the series for good until 2021’s A Court of Silver Flames (ACOSF) was released, with a brand new (but familiar) protagonist.

Whilst it is unclear how much of the books will be covered in the television adaption, a safe guess would be that every season would follow the plotlines of each book.

Is A Court of Thorns and Roses becoming a TV series?

Yes – when the adaption was first announced in March 2021, fans were beside themselves with excitement!

According to Deadline, the series will be a blend of “epic romance, adventure, and political intrigue” that will follow human huntress Feyre Archeron.

Who has been cast in the A Court of Thorns and Roses television series?

Given the television adaption for the series is still in development, and script writing still underway, no casting news has been released.

This however has not stopped fans from sharing who they would like to see play their favourite characters!

Stargirl actress Brec Bassinger has also publicly expressed her interest in starring in the series in a July 2023 interview with TV Line.

”I emailed my team, and I was like, ‘Listen, I don’t care if I have one line. I have to be a part of this,” Brec said, explaining how she was ”obsessed” with the series.

”I feel like I’d make a good Elain, but I;ll be whoever. I want to be sexy, fiery, cool Mor,” she added.

Actress Brec Bassinger has already put her hand up for a starring role!

When will the A Court of Thorns and Roses TV series premiere?

It is currently unclear when the ACOTAR television series will be premiering.

This is mostly due to the ongoing 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes which have put any writing for new television series or movies to a halt.

We don’t know how far along in pre-production the series was before the strikes commenced in May 2023, but we can assume that the delay will have pushed back the premiere in some shape or form from an expected 2024 release date to 2025.

Is The A Court of Thorns and Roses TV show still happening?

Yes!

In 2023, Craig Erwich, President of Hulu Originals & ABC Entertainment provided an update on the show at the Television Critics Association press tour, describing it as a new take on Beauty and the Beast.

“The books are a great roadmap for what I think will be a very successful series. I haven’t read the material yet, although I’m very aware of a lot of the conversations going on with the show…Ron is truly one of the visionaries of that genre.”

Craig is of course referring to Ron Moore who is co creating the series with author Sarah J.Maas.

Speaking of Sarah, there have been reports that the delays may be a result of the author adjusting from being a solo writer, to leading her own writers’ room.
