Who run the world? Beyonce asked this age old question in 2011 and the answer can be found in the new Supernatural spin-off called Wayward Sisters, a female-centred series.
Deadline have announced that the upcoming season finale of Supernatural’s thirteenth season will serve as a backdoor pilot for Wayward Sisters!
So not only will we have a brand new female-centric series to watch, but it will be ushered in with the help of Sam and Dean Winchester, played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, the brothers at the helm of the Supernatural series.
Former Supernatural favourite Kim Rhodes, who plays Sheriff Jody Mills, will head the new series.
Sheriff Mills will lead a sisterhood of young women who have all been orphaned by supernatural disasters.
The sisterhood will eventually form their own family and became a monster-fighting troupe. Kim Rhodes has appeared in a total of 12 Supernatural episodes, with her character Jody being introduced during season five.
The title of the upcoming series is a direct reference to the song ‘Carry on Wayward Son’ by Kansas which is played during each season finale of Supernatural.
The idea of a spin-off came from the committed Supernatural fans, who petitioned for an all-female series called Wayward Daughters.
The idea got so much momentum that even actresses who appeared on Supernatural began supporting the idea on social media.
Producers of the show were quick to take notice of the strong support for a spin-off and thus Wayward Sisters was born!
Four writers and producers fromSupernatural are on board for this latest project – Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer, Robert Berens and Phil Sgriccia.
Hopefully this means that Wayward Sisters will feature more of the ghoulish adventures we’ve come to love through the original series.
