The highly-anticipated second season of 13 Reasons Why is set to air May 18th on Netflix.
Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of Hannah Baker’s (Katherine Langford) death, as the students of Liberty High begin their difficult journey towards healing and recovery.
The first full-length trailer has finally been released, just days before the 13-episode season drops.
In the new trailer we see Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) open his locker to find an ominous polaroid picture, with a note reading ‘Hannah wasn’t the only one’ taped to the back.
“I felt like this whole thing was going to be over,” Clay says in a voice-over. “But it’s not.”
The trailer hints that these polaroids will create a new mystery for the high schoolers to solve. The polaroids will lead the classmates to uncover a “sickening secret” as someone attempts to cover up the truth about Hannah’s death.
Other major plot points seen in the trailer include Jessica (Alisha Boe) being bullied over her sexual assault, her attacker Bryce (Justin Prentice) potentially facing justice for his actions, and plenty of concerning montages featuring guns.
Last season, fans saw Tyler (Devin Druid) buy an arsenal of weapons and create something that looked like a hit list. Following on from those scenes, and the release of the new trailer, many fans have voiced predictions that the second series’ could potentially focus on another major concern for US students: a school shooting.
We won’t know until the series airs later this month, but for now that’s just one theory fans are working on.
