The Queen gushes over Princess Charlotte at her annual Garden Party: “We love to have another girl”

At one of her famous summer garden parties, Her Majesty the Queen opened up to guests about the new royal baby and the delight she feels about having another girl in the family.

Over 8000 people attended the royal garden party at the grounds of Buckingham Palace, which The Queen hosted with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall by her side.

Among the guests was 84 year-old Susan Pollock who told Her Majesty, “I am so happy at the arrival of the new baby, congratulations.”

Susan said the British Monarch responded kindly with, “Yes, we love to have another girl [in the family].”

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge is the Queen’s fourth great-granddaughter but the first contemporary female royal to be directly in line to the throne.

Ms Pollock, who is a holocaust survivor, said the Queen was “pleased to have another great-granddaughter.”

Her Majesty, who turned 89 in April, was dressed in a summery yellow coat as she greeted guests and treated well-wishes to some 20,000 sandwiches and 27,000 cups of tea.

Despite her age, the Queen impressed attendees with her genuine interest in their stories and ease in which she is able to engage with people.

Notably absent from the party was the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George and his one week old sister, Princess Charlotte.

The growing family are spending most of the summer months in their country home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk.
