It doesn’t get more Scottish than the Highland Games and on Saturday The Queen, her husband Prince Philip and their eldest son, Prince Charles, looked right at home as they watched all the fun an frivolity unfold.

The annual Braemar Gathering, which is held near The Queen’s Balmoral estate, sees an array of traditional activities and games performed including tug-of-war, caber tossing and of course the Highland Fling Dance.

Each year the Highland Games draw crowds from around the world, with Queen Victoria first attending the event in 1848.

The Queen – who is a patron of the Highland Games – looked radiant in a chic red overcoat and matching hat.

Clearly thrilled to be there, the 89-year-old monarch giggled and cheered throughout the afternoon.

The royal leader is gearing up for one of the biggest weeks of her lives as she marks becoming the longest-serving monarch of the United Kingdom on Wednesday.

It’s believed she will make a public speech to commemorate the milestone and to thank her supporters and staff members.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the head of the Commonwealth will deliver her thank you speech from a recently opened railway station in Tweedbank, Galashiels, as she opens the Borders Railway line.

While it’s believed later in the evening she will have a low-key family dinner with her loved ones at her Balmoral estate.

The Queen and her son, Prince Charles, share a giggle.

While they’re well known for keeping a stiff upper lip, on Saturday the British Royal Family were highly animated and relaxed.
