The Queen, 90, enjoys a horse ride around Windsor

Her Royal Highness. in jodhpurs, riding boots and her trademark scarf, enjoyed a ride on her favourite mare, Carltonlima Emma, in Windsor Great Park.

There are not many 90-year-old sovereigns who would still jump astride a pony for a ride. But the Queen has been spotted enjoying a “fairweather” ride with her long-serving groom Terry Pendry.

Queen Elizabeth has always enjoyed horses, both riding them and watching them race. A look through the photos dating back to her childhood, and it’s filled of shots of the Queen with and on horses.

But it’s very impressive to see her still enjoying the occasional ride herself. Decked out in jodhpurs and riding boots, and a headscarf instead of a hard hat, she was astride, media reports said, her faithful mare Carltonlima Emma.

Horseriding has always been a big part of the Queen’s life – it’s been documented that she started riding at the age of four – but she admitted in a recent documentary made to mark her 90th birthday that she’s “rather a fair-weather rider now”.
