With the Coronation of Spain’s King Felipe VI, Princess Leonor, the elder daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia, has become Europe’s youngest heir to the throne. She is now Princess of Asturias and at the age of eight is second-in-line to rule Spain.
Besides Princess Mary of Denmark’s first-born son, Prince Christian, all of Leonor’s contemporaries are girls. They include Amalia of the Netherlands, Elisabeth of Belgium and heirs apparent Ingrid of Norway and Estelle of Sweden.
This next generation of heirs has been labelled “charismatic” as they grow up under the global media spotlight and shoulder the burden of carrying their families into an era where monarchy is regularly labelled anachronistic.
Take a look at the child heirs around the world – the boys and girls who, one day, will be kings and queens.
