Before Prince George’s birth, there were a flurry of drawings, sketches and artistic renditions, all attempting to predict what the new little royal would look like. Some predicted brown hair, or his mother’s green eyes, or an unfortunate throwback to Prince Charles’ nose, but after his birth (and his many numerous and adorable appearances), we can all agree he turned out way cuter than we could have ever imagined.
But, the royal family is no stranger to cute babies. From painted portraits, to royal photo calls, The Weekly looks back through the cutest babies to grace the British Royal Family.
And soon we’ll have another little face to add to the list.
Queen Victoria
One of the most famous monarchs of all time, Queen Victoria went on to marry Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and have nine children, who all married into royalty.
Edward VII
Dubbed the “Uncle of Europe”, King Edward VII was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Although he grew up to be a distinguished and respected King, we love his sweet curls in this boyhood portrait.
Edward VIII
Famous for choosing love over the Throne, Edward VIII abdicated in favour of his younger brother (Queen Elizabeth’s father, George VI) to marry American divorcee, Wallis Simpson.
George V
George V became King when his elder brother, Edward VII, died unexpectedly and reigned successfully for over 20 years.
George VI
Although he may not have been as handsome in real life as his on-screen portrayal by Colin Firth in The King’s Speech, George VI was a very cute baby.
Queen Elizabeth
The longest reigning monarch in Britain, Queen Elizabeth was only 26 when she ascended the Throne, and has been on it ever since.
Princess Margaret
Queen Elizabeth’s only sister, Princess Margaret, was considered the wild child of the family. Here she is with her mother, Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and her sister, Queen Elizabeth.
Prince Philip
Queen Elizabeth’s other half, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was born a Prince of Denmark and Greece. Sitting on the steps for his birthday portrait, we can see he’s been a joker since birth!
Prince Andrew
Prince Andrew of York is Queen Elizabeth’s second son, and is currently fifth in line for the Throne. He is pictured here on the lap of the late Queen Mother.
Lady Louise Windsor
The gorgeous Lady Louise Windsor is the eldest child of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.
Prince William
Born to be King, Prince William is second in line for the Throne, behind his father, Charles, Prince of Wales. Here he is at one year old with his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
Prince Harry
Although he is currently sitting at fourth in line, he is about to be bumped down to fifth with the arrival of his new nephew or niece. Prince Henry “Harry” of Wales is the youngest son of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales.
Princess Beatrice
Inheriting her mother’s fiery red hair, Princess Beatrice of York, is the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and his wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, and is sixth in line.
Princess Eugenie
Favouring her father’s darker looks, Princess Eugenie followed her sister two years later, and is right after her in the succession.
Savannah Phillips
Princess Anne’s granddaughter, Savannah Phillips, sits at a very respectable thirteenth in the succession.
Isla Phillips
Little Isla Phillips is the youngest daughter of Peter Phillips, and is 14th in line for the Throne, behind her big sister, Savannah.
Prince George
Prince George’s birth was one of the biggest events of the century, and the cute little Prince certainly lived up to the excitement! He is pictured here at his Christening with mum, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and dad, Prince William.
