The cutest royal babies in history

With the arrival of Princess Cambridge, The Weekly takes a look back through the cutest blue-blooded babes of the British Royal Family.

Before Prince George’s birth, there were a flurry of drawings, sketches and artistic renditions, all attempting to predict what the new little royal would look like. Some predicted brown hair, or his mother’s green eyes, or an unfortunate throwback to Prince Charles’ nose, but after his birth (and his many numerous and adorable appearances), we can all agree he turned out way cuter than we could have ever imagined.

Dubbed the “Uncle of Europe”, King Edward VII was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Although he grew up to be a distinguished and respected King, we love his sweet curls in this boyhood portrait.

Edward VIII

Famous for choosing love over the Throne, Edward VIII abdicated in favour of his younger brother (Queen Elizabeth’s father, George VI) to marry American divorcee, Wallis Simpson.

George V

George V became King when his elder brother, Edward VII, died unexpectedly and reigned successfully for over 20 years.

George VI

Although he may not have been as handsome in real life as his on-screen portrayal by Colin Firth in The King’s Speech, George VI was a very cute baby.

Princess Margaret

Prince Philip

Queen Elizabeth’s other half, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was born a Prince of Denmark and Greece. Sitting on the steps for his birthday portrait, we can see he’s been a joker since birth!

Prince Andrew

Prince Andrew of York is Queen Elizabeth’s second son, and is currently fifth in line for the Throne. He is pictured here on the lap of the late Queen Mother.
