Charmed actress Shannen Doherty has sadly passed away aged 53 following a length battle with cancer.
Shannen’s publicist, Leslie Sloane confirmed the news of her passing to People magazine.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” she said.
“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
In the weeks following her passing, her former Charmed co-star Holly Marie Combs spoke about her departed friend on the House of Halliwell podcast.
“I think she did as much as she could in the time that she had, but we did think we had more time,” she confessed to hosts Brian Krause and Drew Fuller.
“That’s the really sad part. We had big, big plans for this year… It sounds terribly cliché … until it happens to you, you always think you have more time.”
Shannen was best known for her role as Brue Halliwell in Charmed alongside Holly’s character Piper, other roles included Heather Duke in Heathers, Mallrats and Beverly Hills, 902010.
Her battle with cancer first began in 2015 with a breast cancer diagnosis. The disease later returned in 2020 as Stage Iv, metastasizing and spreading to her brain.
Over the past few years, Shannen has often bravely spoken out about her battle.
“I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I’m just not done,” she told People magazine.
In early 2024, her new cancer infusion wasn’t working but Shannen persisted with the treatment despite doctors suggesting otherwise.
“After the sixth or seventh treatment, we really saw it breaking down the blood-brain barrier. Do I call that a miracle? Yeah. For me, that happens to be a miracle right now. That I sort of rolled the dice and said, ‘let’s keep going’,” she shared on her podcast Let’s Be Clear.
After her diagnosis, Shannen began documenting her life in her podcast Let’s Be Clear where she invited numerous star guests that all played a significant role in her life.
“Everything in the world has been written about me,” Doherty said on the podcast. “And 90 per cent has been false.”
Following Shannen’s devastating passing, Hollywood have gathered to tribute the actress, including Olivia Munn, Viola Davis, Selma Blair, Jason Momoa, and Kate Beckinsale.
