There’s no denying Princess Diana was a woman who exuded strength, passion and drive to make a difference.

And her admirable charisma was no more obvious than to her closest friends, one of which still sings her praises to the world whenever she can.

Indeed Sarah Ferguson, who grew close to Diana while she was married to Prince Andrew, has just shared a touching tribute to Diana via her Instagram page, lamenting her as a “strong woman” and a “dear departed friend”.

Taking to the social media platform during International Women’s Day on March 8, Sarah posted a series of pictures dedicated to the women who had made a difference in her life.

“Thinking of some of the strong women who’ve been part of my life – my late mother, my dear, departed friends Diana and Carolyn Cotterell and of course my fierce, beautiful, loving daughters Beatrice and Eugenie who make me proud every day,” she wrote.

The 59 year old also included the hashtags “#BalanceforBetter” and “#girlpower” to accompany the pictures.

The post has garnered over 23,000 likes and hundreds of comments, serving as a beautiful reminder of the friendship Sarah shared with Diana, who passed away 22 years ago.

In her photo, Diana is seen wearing a bright red sweater adorned with white sheep while Sarah is wearing a blue denim shirt over a printed dress.

The two women were known to be close, with their friendship playing out under a world-wide magnifying glass – much like that of Duchesses Catherine and Meghan today.

In February, Sarah wrote an open letter published on Hello! where she detailed the negatives that came with having their every move scrutinised.

In her letter, she wrote: “Women, in particular, are constantly pitted against and compared with each other in a way that reminds me of how people tried to portray Diana and me all the time as rivals, which is something neither of us ever really felt.”

And Diana isn’t the only woman to have made a big impression on the royal. It’s no secret that Fergie’s two daughters Beatrice and Eugenie are the apple of her eye.

The mum-of-two often takes to her Instagram to share what her daughters have been up to, from speaking engagements to their charity work – this is one proud mum!

And Sarah herself is no stranger to working towards the greater good.

The red-headed royal is known for her charity efforts – she recently visited one of the poorest places in Sierra Leone where she met families living there and shared a poignant message.

“They have so little and many make a living working on a vast rubbish dump. I was so shocked and sad to hear that a huge fire has now destroyed the homes and livelihoods of many hundreds of people,” she wrote to Instagram.

She continued: “Many families have lost everything and are living in the open air. Please, please support my charity Street Child’s emergency appeal to help via their website“.
