ACCORDING to the Mail on Sunday the Duchess of York broke her silence to defend her ex-husband, describing him as ‘the greatest man there is’.

While not commenting directly on the matter the 55-year-old Duchess chose her words carefully when approached by reporters while emerging from her $41,500-a-week chalet in a luxury Swiss ski resort.

“It was the finest moment of my life in 1986 when I married him,” said Fergie. “He is a great man, the best man in the world.”

Having weathered their fair share of scandals as a couple Ferguson, who has two daughters with the Prince, Princess Beatrice, 26, Princess Eugenie, 24, hinted that the family are united despite the allegations.

“The York family is a tight unit,” said Fergie. “We’ve always been a tight unit.”

In papers filed to a Florida court this past week a woman, identified as Virginia Roberts, accused the 54-year-old Duke of York of having sex with her when she was 17 after she was ‘procured’ for him by billionaire financier and convicted paedophile, Jeffrey Epstein.

On Sunday Buckingham Palace once again “emphatically denied” the allegations made against the Prince stating the claims are “without any foundation”.

An initial statement had said “any suggestion of impropriety with under-age minors” by Prince Andrew were “categorically untrue”.

According to the BBC the woman says she was forced to sleep with the Duke of York when she was under age on three occasions – in London, New York and on a private Caribbean island owned by Epstein – between 1999 and 2002.

The prince, who is Queen Elizabeth II‘s second son, has been criticised in the past for his relationship with 61-year-old Epstein – a registered sex offender who in 2008 was convicted of having sex with an underage girl whom he had solicited.

Despite divorcing in 1996, Andrew and Fergie still live together in the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park and some speculate they would remarry if it was not for Prince Philip‘s disapproval of the controversial Duchess.

In 2013 Sarah said: “He’s still my handsome prince, he’ll always will be my handsome prince.”
