Veteran journalist and television personality Samantha Armytage has announced her departure from Channel 7.
Sam worked for the network for 21 years, but now she’ll be embarking on a new chapter of her life.
“21 is a coming-of-age. And so, after that many years, I am departing Channel 7 with lots of happy memories, a full heart & huge thanks to the many fantastic colleagues along the journey,” Samantha Armytage, 47, shared via her Instagram page.
“There’s too many highlights to list ~ I have hosted almost every show in the network (from Sunrise dawn to Farmer’s dusk) ~ & covered many of the important news stories of the past 2 decades.
“I started at 7 as a fresh-faced 26yo journo & will leave as a .. ahem… more mature-faced woman – who’s worked hard, had THE most incredible experiences & also a lot of fun.
“I hope I’ve brought a little bit of info & sparkle into your living rooms so far 💫 to ALL who watched, thank you for tuning-in for so many years. 📺
“This is not the end, just the end of this chapter. […] I’ll see you all again, soon. Sam xox.”
Fellow colleagues, friends and celebrities flocked to the comment section of Sam’s post, sharing their congratulations on such a wonderful career, along with well wishes for her future endeavours.
“What an amazing ride it’s been Sam! Congratulations 🙌,” current Sunrise host Natalie Barr wrote, while former The Bachelor star Anna Heinrich commented, “Congratulations Sam!! ❤️.”
Meanwhile, fellow journalist and former television presenter Sharyn Ghidella wrote, “May the next big adventure be as good as the last! Congratulations Sam, on all you’ve achieved. What a career you’ve had. It was a pleasure sharing the wee hours of the morning with you.. if only we didn’t have to set an alarm to do it! 😂 All the best for what lies ahead. Xx ❤️.”
The 47-year-old was a former host of weekday breakfast show, Sunrise, as well as co-host of Channel 7’s hit reality series Farmer Wants A Wife.
Sam’s departure from the network means she won’t be returning to FWAW in 2025 – a role she was originally rumoured to be reprising.
It was revealed by News Corp that Sam’s contract with Seven was set to expire in October 2024, and while she was offered a renewal, she declined.
“It’s a little sad and it’s bittersweet, but the time has come. I leave with lots of goodwill in my heart and excitement about the future,” she told News Corp.
“I’m big on instinct. I listen to my instinct. I know when the time comes. I am proud of the fact that I back myself enough to say, ‘I’ve done what I can do here’ and I move on.
“This is not the end. It’s just the end of this chapter.”
What exactly Samantha Armytage’s next chapter entails remains unknown.
