Although the duchess has never clarified to the media why she decided to drop her first name, but fans have speculated it was because she simply did not like her first name due to its popularity while growing up in the 80s and 90s. Plus, Meghan Markle has a nice sound to it!
Meghan gained another title in 2018, the Duchess of Sussex after marrying Prince Harry.
Despite leaving the British royal family in January 2020 with her husband and no longer being considered a senior working royal member, the Duchess title remains.
However, Meghan’s name and title differ on her children’s birth certificate due to the timing of the duke and duchess’ departure of the royal family.
The birth certificates obtained by TMZ revealed that Archie Mountbatten-Windsor’s mother wrote “Rachel Meghan Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex” as she was still an official member of the royal family when he was born in 2019.
