Queen Elizabeth biopic being filmed in England

Earlier this week, crowds in England were treated to a glimpse of the Queen's new biopic.

If the couple of minutes of grainy footage of Queen’s Elizabeth’s wedding released a few weeks ago left you wanting, Netflix has come to the rescue.

Passer-bys and crowds were treated a behind the scenes look into the streaming site’s latest television creation, The Crown, a Queen Elizabeth biopic, this week.

In the streets of Ely, Cambridgeshire, the people were able to catch a glimpse of the magic behind the madness as actress Claire Foy, who plays a young Princess Elizabeth, and Matt Smith, a young Prince Philip, enacted the 1947 wedding.

The Wolf Hall actress, 31, showed off her replica white satin gown, completed with an imitation ‘Fringe Tiara’ and double strand pearl necklace. You can view the pictures here.

Claire Foy was also joined by her on-screen Prince, Matt Smith, who will be playing the young and dashing Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, on the cusp of marrying his Princess.

Alongside Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip, the cast included Elizabeth’s bridesmaids (with Princess Margaret leading the pack), Princess Elizabeth’s parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and, of course, Winston Churchill, all dressed in decadently ‘40s silhouettes.

The series, which has a rumoured budget of £100 million, is set for release in 2016 and is expected to follow the life and times of the Queen.

While we’re not sure if the series will include some of our favourite moments, like her coronation, her first Parliamentary appearance or the frenzy surrounding her first pregnancy, we’ve complied our favourite Elizabeth moments for you to look at anyway.

Actress, and historical drama pro, Claire Foy has been cast as the young Queen Elizabeth.

Whilst Doctor Who star, Matt Smith, will play a young Prince Philip.

Elizabeth was born the first child of her parents, Queen Elizabeth and King George VI.

She was raised in London, with her sister Margaret, and was educated privately.

For the first time in history, a Princess was allowed to serve as a Girl Guide.

The Princess Elizabeth was also a member of the British Armed Forces, she is seen here leading the troops in a ceremony.

Princess Elizabeth was educated in arts, literature, and music by her governess, Marion Crawfield, or “Crawfie”.

After a string of love letters sent back and forth (which is how Prince Philip is rumoured to have won her heart), Elizabeth and her military sweetheart, Prince Philip of Denmark and Greece, became engaged.

Elizabeth and Philip were married on 20 November 1947 at Westminster Abbey. Their wedding took place at the end of the second world war and Elizabeth required ration coupons to buy the material of her dress.

Princess Elizabeth gave birth to their first child in 1948, a boy she named Prince Charles.

Soon three other children followed, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

Elizabeth’s father, George VI, died in 1952 and Elizabeth was crowned Queen a month later.
