Kate stuns in fabulous scarlet gown

A sparkling reception fit for royalty.

British Columbia turned on the glitz tonight at a beautiful reception at Government House for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to meet some of the Province’s most notable citizens including philanthropists, First Nations leaders, youth workers and veterans.

The royal couple returned to Victoria just a few hours ago from a wet but spectacular day seeing the Great Bear Rainforest and meeting the remote community of Bella Bella. After putting Prince George and Princess Charlotte to bed, the royals made a quick change of clothes into cocktail dress to come downstairs for tonight’s lavish reception.

And the dress was quite stunning. The Duchess wore a scarlet gown by British designer Preen, accessorised with the Queen’s maple leaf brooch, worn for the second time on this tour. Her hair looked chic in an up do with simple elegant earrings to match the brooch. The Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, Her Honour the Honourable Judith Guichon, was tonight’s host together with the Premier of British Columbia, The Honourable Christy Clark.

After the black rod ceremony when Prince William installed a final ring – representing the reconciliation of all cultures – on the Black Rod, a ceremonial staff created in 2012 to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and used on ceremonial occasions, the Cobble Hill Elementary School serenaded guests into the spirit of Canada’s 150 birthday which is coming in 2017 with their original song, “My Canada,” the winner of the Lieutenant Governor’s “Sing Me a Song” Program.
