Secret life of Queen and Prince Philip revealed

It is not unknown for the Queen to tell the Duke to shut up.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip

Details of the fascinating life of Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip are set to be released in a new book, Prince Philip: I Know I am Rude, But I Like It by Nigel Cawthorne.

The book, compiled of often hilarious interviews with former staff, gives insight into the private world of the British Royal Family.

In one chapter, remembering when he first met Queen Elizabeth in 1939, Philip recalls: “You were so shy. I couldn’t get a word out of you.”

But in the 70 years since their marriage it looks like the tables have turned, with the Queen’s former private secretary Lord Charteris admitting, “It is not unknown for the Queen to tell the Duke to shut up.”

Former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, says he was also privy to the Royal’s private life.

Blair once revealed he spent time with the couple at Balmoral in Scotland, describing it as “a vivid combination of the intriguing, the surreal and the utterly freaky”.

The book also explores the home life of the royal couple. Apparently Philip is in charge of the cooking, which reminds us of one of his best gaffes in 1961 at the Scottish Women’s Institute, where he announced “British women can’t cook.”
