A brief statement issued by the Danish Royal Family revealed the Hobart-born princess and her husband, Crown Prince Frederick, will celebrate the festive season with Princess Mary’s family in Tasmania, together with the couple’s four children.

No further details about the visit have been revealed.

The last time Christian,10, Princess Isabella, eight, and adorable twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, both four years old, came to their mum’s homeland was back in 2011.

Australia holds a special place in Prince Frederik’s heart; it was where he famously met his brunette beauty, in Sydney pub, The Slip Inn during the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

15 years ago, no could have predicted a Hobart girl would steal a Danish prince’s heart. Then known as Mary Donaldson, the girl from Tassie first crossed paths with ‘just Fred’ at the Sydney’s Slip Inn pub during the 2000 Olympics

Princess Mary, who grew up in the Hobart suburb of Taroona, has not visited her hometown in over five years. No doubt the youngest of the Donaldson girls will be ecstatic to be reunited with sisters, Jane Stephens, 49, and Patricia Bailey, 47.

It’s expected her brother, John Donaldson, 45, will make a trip from Perth to Tassie to see his godson, Prince Vincent and the rest of the Danish family.

While it’s unknown where Denmark’s future Queen will stay, in the past they’ve stayed at a family holiday house on the east coast.

No matter where she is, Tassie locals will be delighted that their Princess has returned.

“She’s obviously working very hard in Denmark, she’s a working mother,” Hobart Lord Mayor Sue Hickey said yesterday.

“Hopefully the state will respect that this is a very special time for her and her family to reconnect.”
