The Crown Princess of Denmark has literally never had a hair out of place and is the epitome of chic.

So when she stepped out with husband Prince Frederik at an official dinner in Latvia, where the couple were royal guests of President Raimonds Vejonis and his wife Iveta Vejone, she shocked royal fans with a new hairstyle.

Like Duchess Catherine, Princess Mary usually loves to wear her hair out and is clearly no stranger to a professional blowout.

But for the dinner she styled her hair in a chic low bun, with her hair pinned away from her face.

At first glance, it appears as though Mary had chopped off her beautiful hair, but when you look at her from a different angle, itโ€™s clear she simply chose a different hairstyle for this occasion.

Wearing a suit by Danish designer Jesper Hovring, she paired them with a pair of pumps by Pura Lopez.

Earlier in the week, the 46-year-old Tasmanian native posed for photos with her father John Donaldson and her children, Prince Christian, Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent.

The adorable family attended a Christmas concert held by the Danish Music Conservatoryโ€™s Childrenโ€™s Choir.

Maryโ€™s father John moved to Denmark from Australia after his daughter married Prince Frederik in 2004.

Her mother Henrietta โ€˜Ettaโ€™ Donaldson tragically died from a heart condition back in 1997, when Mary was in her twenties.

โ€œI was 26. It happened too early,โ€ Mary said in 2016 of her motherโ€™s death.

โ€œItโ€™s so hard to see when it is so close and so personal, but as you get older, you learn to appreciate the time you had together as a gift. And the loss offers something that you wouldnโ€™t have otherwise. It makes a strong person.โ€

In the past, Princess Mary has shared various admissions about her pain over the loss of her mother.

โ€œI felt alone in my pain,โ€ she revealed to a Danish TV and radio station previously.

โ€œAs if nobody understood what I was going through and I had come to a standstill while the whole world around me kept moving forwards.โ€

โ€œI would have liked to have spent more time with her,โ€ she said.

Meanwhile, Maryโ€™s father John has since found love again with English author Susan Horwood and the pair married in 2001.
