Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has shared a rare glimpse behind the scenes as she prepares for a special event in one of the Danish royal palaces.

The Australian-born royal took to social media with a candid photo as she set a long dining table ahead of a gathering for the Mary Foundation.

Sharing the snap on the Danish Royal Family’s Instagram and Facebook, Mary penned a very relatable caption.

“It’s great to be able to invite you inside again, and I look forward to gathering the Mary Foundation’s presidium after a long period of COVID restrictions,” she wrote.

“Tonight it’s about taking stock of our work and discussing how we can contribute to a society where everyone experiences a sense of belonging.

“In particular, our work to combat loneliness has filled much of the last 18 months,” she continued.

The princess has been working through the Mary Foundation to combat loneliness during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In February she spoke out about how deeply the pandemic and lockdowns had affected young people in Denmark and around the world.

“The meeting with the young people touched me a lot,” she wrote at the time.

“Young people are finding it harder and harder to see an end to it all. They struggle to maintain both motivation and spirit, and loneliness has begun to fill more for more of them.”

Fortunately, the royal has been hard at work supporting projects and initiatives designed to put an end to those feelings of loneliness.

It will be one of the main topics of discussion at the Mary Foundation’s presidium in Denmark today, though the princess shared a relatable confession about the event.

As well as being eager to continue her work with the foundation, Mary said: “And of course, I’m also looking forward to a nice time together.”

She spent much of 2020 in lockdown with Crown Prince Frederik and their four children, Prince Christian, 15, Princess Isabella, 14, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, both 10.

Now the family are enjoying life out of isolation, with Christian heading off to complete his studies at a prestigious Danish school in August.

Meanwhile, Mary and Frederik’s three youngest children joined their parents for the Danish Royal Run event in September.

The proud parents shared a snap of their children posing in their running gear after the event, their cheeks flushed as they held up their medals.

They children looked all grown up in the photo, which appeared to have been taken in the palace gardens.
