Just days out from his first birthday the Duke of Cambridge, 31, has revealed little Prince George isn’t too far off running rings around his parents.

According to People magazine William opened up about his son while spending the day at a school athletics carnival in Coventry.

“I think George will be running faster than me very soon,” the prince reportedly told head teacher Gill Naylor.

After a 30-metre dash the father-of-one appeared to be in his element as he cheered on students from the sidelines and assisted in handing out medals to the winners.

“Look excited! Be happy!” William encouraged the kids while posing with them for pictures.

The Prince was officially in town to dedicate a War Memorial Park as part of the Fields In Trust programme.

The Prince was welcomed warmly by the locals.

The town turned out in droves to wave Union Jacks and chant Welcome to Coventry to mark the Duke’s first trip to the city.

Elly Pittaway, chairman of the Friends of the War Memorial Park, was among those who lined up to greet the Prince.

“We chatted about the children’s play area which we got through the help of a sustainable grant and also about out current project which is a green gym,” Pittaway told the Coventry Telegraph.

“The Prince was very polite and charming – and good looking. It’s a great day for the park and to have someone like the Prince acknowledging it is just brilliant,” she said.

In the coming days The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are reportedly preparing to celebrate little Prince George’s first birthday with a small celebration of close friends and family.
