In a rare interview, Prince William has chatted to BBC Future about his experiences working as an air ambulance pilot.
The 34-year-old is in the middle of his two year contract with East Anglian Air Ambulance which he signed in March 2015.
“I look forward to coming here every day, whether it’s 5:30 a.m. or going to bed at 2 a.m. The shift work is exciting… And the fact that I love working in a team. That’s something my other job doesn’t necessarily do,” the father of two mused.
“When I put my air ambulance hat on, and I come here and I fly, I’m one of the team.”

William may be king one day, but for now he’s happy with his day job.
When waiting to fly out for a rescue, you can find the Prince taking phone calls or training and debriefing his colleagues.
Many dream of being pilot, but the 34-year-old’s work isn’t all soaring heights.
“There are some very sad, dark moments,” he admitted.
“We talk about it a lot, and that’s the best way of dealing with some of these situations. But it’s hard … It can be quite difficult.”
But for the young royal, it’s all about stepping up, as he explained, “I want to get the job the done, and at the end of the day feel like I’ve made a difference and a contribution to whatever it is I’ve done that day,”
The second in line to the British throne is the perfect man for the job, having previously worked as a search and rescue pilot with the Royal Air Force.

Working in a civilian job clearly suits Britain’s future monarch.
In a snippet from the **BBC*, we see Wills get teased about his lack of hair… and it’s adorable!
“I was quite relaxed when you turned up because somebody had less hair than I did!” East Anglian Air Ambulance Captain, James Pusey, joked in the interview.
“Ah, touche!” William quipped right back.
James also spoke about the royal as colleague, musing, “He’s very good with advice and parenthood – in terms of good tips!”
Wills quickly remarked, “Dishing out parent advice.”
It’s not all soaring highs, the job also has its lows.
Future King or not, in a civilian job, you’re going to get a nickname!
William’s moniker is Will.I.Am.
So how do patients deal with the royal’s presence?
William said, “Fortunately they don’t really care who turns up as long as they’re getting the care and the help that they need.”
“I have to say I was a little bit anxious of some of that when I first started, because I didn’t want to bring any chaos or any sort of unhelpfulness to the scene!”
“And actually, it’s worked out better than I could possibly have thought.”
The Queen visited her grandson William when they popped in to the new East Anglian Air Ambulance Base at Cambridge Airport earlier this year in July!
Like most every day workers, we’re guessing Wills is quite excited to lock in some annual leave.
This weekend, the future heir-to-the-throne will travel to Canada with wife Kate and their two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, for an official eight-day tour.
The nation’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, officially invited the entire Cambridge family to his country and we’re expecting that Princess Charlotte’s first royal tour will be filled with fun and be family friendly.
The kids will no doubt adore the natural beauty Canada has to offer…
