Prince George has already demonstrated he’s handy with a polo mallet, and this fact hasn’t escaped his dad, Prince William.
Already a beloved horseback sport of the male Windsors, including Dad Wills, plus Prince Charles and Prince Harry, it appears that young George is going to continue the proud tradition.
Wills learned to ride at a young age with his pony, Smokey.
It’s been revealed that the proud father has already sorted the almost-two-year-old’s first lesson with one of England’s leading coaches, James Morrison.
Britain’s Mail on Sunday reports that Wills’ longtime friend has agreed to mentor George as soon as he’s old enough to ride a pony.
“Obviously, George is far too young to to be learning polo yet,” says the newspaper’s source.
However, no one told George this, as he frolicked with a mallet in hand a couple of weeks ago while his dad galloped around the pitch just metres away.
The little prince is showing early promise.
The British press had a field day when they noted it appeared the handsome toddler was a left-hander – a habit he’ll need to change before his first chukka.
“It won’t be for quite a few years, but George will have to learn to play with his right hand, as you can’t play polo with your left,” says the source.
In a few years, George will hold a grown-up version.
The royal family has a long and proud tradition of becoming pony owners at a young age (William was given a Shetland called Smokey almost as soon as he could walk) and it appears Prince George is no exception – even though his mum the Duchess of Cambridge is reportedly allergic to horses!
