Prince William has become the latest royal to “photobomb” a picture at the Commonwealth Games when he was snapped smiling in the background of Sir Chris Hoy’s shot.

The cheeky picture was tweeted by the former Scottish Olympic cyclist to his 590,000 followers and captioned: “Got to love a royal photobomb!”

The Duke of Cambridge’s spontaneous appearance was the third time a member of the royal family has popped up unexpectedly in a shot at the games.

On Monday night Prince Harry photobombed New Zealand Commonwealth Games officials as they watched the women’s swimming but perhaps it’s the Australian women’s hockey team who are to blame for the whole royal-selfie trend.

Jayde Taylor and her Hockeyroos team-mate, Brooke Peris captured a perfectly timed picture of themselves with the Queen in the background staring straight down the lens which was splashed across newspapers all over the world.

The royal couple were also joined by Prince Harry.

The eyes of the avid sports fans were firmly fixated on the game. Kate was captured wincing and blocking her face.

Kate wore one of her Zara navy blazer and skinny jeans, along with her much-loved wedges.
