Prince William has made his first public statement since the Queen’s funeral and it may hint at a stateside reunion with his brother Prince Harry.
Appearing in a special video message for the upcoming Earthshot Prize awards in Boston, USA, William touched on his grief following the death of his grandmother.
“Though it is the saddest of circumstances that means I cannot join you in person today, I am pleased to be able to join you in video form as you gather in New York for the Earthshot Prize innovation summit,” he said in a message sent to the Earthshot Prize innovation summit in New York.
It’s understood the Prince of Wales had hoped to attend the summit with his wife, Princess Catherine, however the Queen’s death made the trip impossible.
“During this time of grief, I take great comfort in your continued enthusiasm, optimism and commitment to the Earthshot Prize and what we are trying to achieve,” he continued.
“Protecting the environment was a cause close to my grandmother’s heart. And I know she would have been delighted to hear about this event and the support you’re all giving our Earthshot finalists, the next generation of environmental pioneers.”
William then confirmed he and Catherine would be heading to the US in the coming months, telling viewers they “are so excited to be coming to Boston in December”.
It’s unclear if the couple will bring their three children to the States, though their eldest Prince George and Princess Charlotte have been attending more and more public events.
William also made a brief reference to his children in the message, adding: “The 2021 cohort of Earthshot Winners and Finalists is evidence that we can succeed, that we can protect our world for our children, our grandchildren and the generations that will follow them.”
Now that William has confirmed that he and Catherine will be travelling to the US in December, royal watchers are eager to see if he will reunite with brother Prince Harry there.
There is speculation that Harry, along with wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex may invite the Prince and Princess of Wales to their California home while they visit the states.
The couple have been living there with their two children, Archie and Lilibet, since 2020 and have received other royal guests there, specifically Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie.
A reunion between the two brothers at Harry’s new home could do much in healing the rumours of an ongoing “rift” between the brothers, and between Harry and the extended royoal family.
The Duke of Sussex appeared alongside his brother at the Queen’s funeral this week and previously visited the UK for her Platinum Jubilee and the funeral of Prince Philip in 2021.
