Within mere hours of Prince Harry arriving back in Australia after a flying visit to London, he was spotted out on the town in Perth.
In the first confirmed sighting of the young royal at play during his secondment to the Australian Defence Force, Harry, 30, was seen out to dinner at The Stables Bar. It’s not known who his dining companions were, however Woman’s Day understands he enjoyed a nice big feed.
After knocking back a Corona beer, he then ate pork belly before making short work of a dessert platter – which he didn’t share. After all, Harry will spend coming days taking part in gruelling exercises with elite SAS soldiers so he needs to crank up his energy levels!
Restaurant owner Tim McLernon told local radio that he was only given an hours’ notice of the Prince’s impending visit, and instructed staff to prepare a private area fit for royalty.
But laidback Harry, known as Captain Wales in his official capacity while in Australia, was having none of it.
“When he got here, we showed him those areas but he didn’t want a bar of that,” says Tim.
“He said, ‘Nah, I’m not interested in being fussed over. I just want to sit with everyone else,’ so he grabbed a table and sat down.”
Captain Wales, who has a huge fan base Down Under, cut a casual figure in a grey T-shirt when he stepped out for a low-key meal at The Stables in Perth.
When he was finished tucking into his right royal feast, Tim reveals Harry had kind words for his restaurant.
“He told me how much he loved the food. And when he left I saw them work out everyone’s share. He left a sizeable tip,” he says. “He was a very nice guy. He didn’t want to be fussed around and it was a pleasure to have him.”
After a whirlwind visit to pay his respects at the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing in Turkey, followed by a pit-stop in London, The Prince will spend the next couple of days at Perth’s Swanbourne barracks.
Then he’ll jet to Sydney, and visit troops at the Holsworthy military facility just south of the city. On May 9 he’s due to begin an official royal tour of New Zealand.
