He’s hotly tipped to be one of her godfathers, but Prince Harry won’t be attending Princess Charlotte’s christening next month.

William and Kate have announced Charlotte will be christened at St Mary Magdalene Church on the Queen’s Sandringham estate on July 5, several days after Harry is due to fly to Africa for a three-month visit.

Harry, who steps down from his current role in the armed forces later this month, will be visiting the continent to complete conservation work.

Princess Charlotte will be christened on July 5.

He was also overseas when Charlotte was born, attending an AFL game in Perth while William and Kate welcomed their new baby into the world.

The christening will be a private affair, with only close family and friends invited.

The church chosen to host the event is just a few kilometres from the Cambridge’s country home Amner Hall and also has family significance, being the location of William’s mother Diana’s christening in August 1961.

It’s been reported Charlotte will wear the same Honiton lace christening gown that George wore in October 2013.

George was christened in the royal chapel at St James’s Palace, whereas Prince William was baptised in the music room at Buckingham Palace in August 1982 and Prince Harry’s 1984 christening was held at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Princess Charlotte will be just two months old at the time of her christening, which her big brother George was three months old.
