In her first ever interview as a royal, the mother-of-two revealed that both her and the Queen were positively “thrilled” when it came to welcoming her first daughter, Princess Charlotte into the world.

“It’s very special having a new little girl,” the brunette beauty said. “I feel very, very lucky that George has got a little sister.”

“The Queen was really thrilled that it was a little girl, and I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington she was one of our first visitors here.”

The 34-year-old also let slip one particularly adorable detail – the special name that little Prince George has given to his great-grandmother.

“George is only two-and-a-half and he calls her ‘Gan-Gan.’”

Naturally, the 89-year-old monarch is overwhelmed with love and joy for her growing family. In her Christmas speech last year, she took a moment to mention the sentiment she shares for the new addition, Princess Charlotte.

“One of the joys of living a long life is watching one’s children, then grandchildren, then great-grandchildren, help decorate the Christmas tree,” she said fondly.

“And this year my family has a new member to join in the fun.”

Her majesty met her great-granddaughter at Kensington Palace just three days after her May birth.

Since then, she simply couldn’t help but treat both George and Charlotte with little presents every time the family pays her a visit.

“She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay and that just shows her love for her family,” Duchess Catherine quipped.
