Princess Mary and Prince Frederikโs eldest son, Prince Christian, has been saved from a dangerous rip while swimming on the Gold Coast.
Christian, who is in Australia with his family for the Christmas holidays, was rescued from the water by lifeguards after he was swept off his feet by a strong current, reports Seven News Queensland.
After being swept out, he was spotted by a local lifeguard, Nick Malcolm, who paddled out to him on his board and pulled the Prince out.
Although Christian wasnโt out very far, Mr Malcolmโs supervisor, Stuart Keay, maintains that a strong rip can be deadly no matter the depth.
โWe got him before it got too serious, but he wouldnโt have come back in,โ said Keay of the incident, which occurred on Thursday.
Mr Keay also revealed that the lifeguard had no idea that he had saved a Prince โ until beachgoers told him so.
โHeโs kept it pretty quiet, Iโm sure weโll give him plenty of stick now we know,โ a fellow lifeguard, Shane Pierce, told Seven News.
Christianโs father, Prince Frederik, is said to have personally thanked Malcolm and the Mermaid Beach lifeguards.
Princess Mary, Prince Frederik and their children, Christian, 10, Isabella, 8, Josephine and Vincent, 4, are currently holidaying in Australia, where they will spend Christmas.
